When testing in a laboratory, the Base-Plate is required. The Base-Plate can be secured to a rigid, horizontal surface. The sample is then secured to the curved test specimen holder.

When using the Base Plate, the small rubber sliders should be used. The Base Plate is often used when conducting Polished Stone Value (PSV) tests.
